- Introduction
This policy covers Wildscreen’s use of personal information that Wildscreen collects when you use wildfilmnews.org. The policy also gives you information about cookies; Wildscreen and third parties' use of cookies; and how you may reject such cookies.
From time to time, you will be asked to submit personal information about yourself (e.g. email address) in order to receive or use services on our website. Such services include newsletters, message boards and wildfilmnews.org membership.
By entering your details in the fields requested, you enable Wildscreen to provide you with the services you select. Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. When using your personal information Wildscreen will act in accordance with current legislation and aim to meet current Internet best practice.
- Visitor Information
During the course of some visits to wildfilmnews.org, the pages you see, along with a short text file called a 'cookie', are downloaded to your computer. Many websites do this, because cookies enable website publishers to do useful things like find out whether the computer (and probably its user) has visited the website before. This is done on a repeat visit by checking for, and finding, the cookie left there on the last visit.
- What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a website's computer (web server) and stored on your computer's hard drive. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a web site to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites.
Many sites do this whenever a user visits their website in order to track online traffic flows.
Cookies record information about your online preferences. Users have the opportunity to set their computers to accept all cookies, to notify them when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The last of these, of course, means that certain personalised services cannot then be provided to that user and accordingly you may not be able to take full advantage of all the wildfilmnews.org features. Each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.
If you have set your computer to reject cookies you can still browse wildfilmnews.org anonymously until such time as you wish to accept cookies from wildfilmnews.org. By rejecting cookies you will not be able to use our forum or directory but you will be able to read news and view the calendar. For further information on cookies please visit www.aboutcookies.org.
“Session” cookies refer to a specific use of a standard cookie. A session cookie contains just one anonymous unique identifier that our website uses to link information such as directory search results with your wildfilmnews.org session. Your wildfilmnews.org session begins when you first access wildfilmnews.org and ends when you close your web browser. The session cookie is removed from your machine when the session ends. If you return to wildfilmnews.org at a later date, you will receive a new session cookie with a new identifier. Information (such as the results of any directory search you perform and whether you are logged in or not) is stored on the wildfilmnews.org web server and cannot be accessed by a third party. This information will remain for some time after your session has ended. This is because wildfilmnews.org does not know when you have closed your web browser.
- How does WildFilmNews.org use cookies?
Wildfilmnews.org uses cookies for a few things. Firstly, we will use a session cookie while you browse or search the directory and forum. We also use session cookies to authenticate you when you login to wildfilmnews.org and when you use the member area. When you signup or login to wildfilmnews.org we will also send a cookie which contains an identifier that is unique to your wildfilmnews.org account. This identifier helps us recognize you when you return to wildfilmnews.org but your personal details are always stored securely in our database and never sent to your machine in a cookie. If you want to remove this cookie, click on the “This is not me” link in the yellow box on the top right of any page.
- Use and storage of your personal information
When you supply your e-mail address to wildfilmnews.org you agree that we may retain this information until such time that you explicitly ask us to delete it from our records. You can unsubscribe from all of our newsletters at any time but your email address and other account details will remain active in our database in case you wish to re-subscribe in the future. Your e-mail address will only be used to send you the newsletters that you have subscribed to and will not be shared with third parties. Although there are no plans to do so, Wildscreen reserves the right to send you important notices via email about the wildfilmnews.org service.
In general, any information you provide to Wildscreen will only be used within Wildscreen and its service providers. Your information will be disclosed where we are obliged or permitted by law. Also, if you post or send offensive, inappropriate or objectionable content anywhere on or to wildfilmnews.org or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on wildfilmnews.org, Wildscreen can use whatever information that is available to it about you to stop such behaviour. This may involve informing relevant third parties such as your employer or Internet provider and law enforcement agencies about the content and your behaviour.
Where personal information is held for people who are not yet registered but have taken part in other wildfilmnews.org services (e.g. competitions), that information will be held as long as is necessary to ensure that the service is run smoothly. We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
You have the right to request a copy of the personal information Wildscreen holds about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected.
- Users 16 and under
If you are aged 16 or under, please get your parent/guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide personal information to Wildscreen's website. Users without this consent are not allowed to provide us with personal information.
